Crux 18 is a residential building in the south sector of Athens, designed by The Hive Architects around a clear formal argument: horizontality in motion. Angled wall edges introduce directional energy without compromising the coherence of the whole. Projecting floor slabs push depth into the facade and give the building its identity from the street.

Full-height glazing runs the length of each level, keeping the boundary between interior and veranda permeable. Transparent balcony railings hold the views open and reinforce the sense of lightness the geometry is already working toward. Cascading greenery along the balcony edges softens the building’s lines and introduces a biophilic layer that also performs: shading, thermal regulation, and a facade that changes with the seasons.
At ground level, a linear reflective pool runs parallel to the building. The water picks up light and view in equal measure, and the boundary between architecture and landscape loses its edge. Timber cladding and earth tones in the recesses pull warmth into a composition that could otherwise read as purely geometric. After dark, linear lighting traces the volumes and restates the building’s logic in a different register. IDAA developed the exterior visualization for this project, building the atmosphere of the renders around the hours when the design performs at its most precise.
